My first letter to Esha

Dear Esha,

This is my first letter to you from Amma. I hope this will bring a smile to you whenever you are ready to read this.

Sweetheart , thank you for choosing me, though I am not sure if you had an option. You have been the best thing happened so far in my life. The days and times I spend time with you are a treasure.. These 3 years have been very fulfilling journeying with you so far and I know there are umpteen number of beautiful years to unfurl with us together. More than being a caretaker and a mother, there is part of me always amazed and in awe of your personality. There are moments that I am secretly proud of, there are incidents when you teach me profound lesson in most subtle way. More than I can offer you, I think I have been learning from you. Thanks to the stars for this connect we have.

Though a little human that you are, the values that you emanate are profound. Not that I taught you everything, but you picked it up soon and made it part of you. The little things you remember of  what Amma said and cutely preach  it to others are my secret proud moments . The list of vast , on how you cannot hurt others, how we help each other at home as a family , on how one can’t waste food or how you immediately say sorry and admit a mistake(if you feel guilty) are intricate values you started to pick up very early . I can see a wonderful human being who will not change the entire world but will surely create a positive impact in the world around her.

I am in absolute love when you say NO to people if you are not convinced. I remember one of my college friend trying to make to say my nick name and since you did not like it,  you refused and did not yield to utter it. Poor guy is not successful till date. How I wished I said ‘NO’ often to people and was not misused and taken for granted.

My baby, the empathy you have for dogs and the way you treat them like your family is very powerful. You do not shy away from a street dog either. A genuine love towards feeding them and hugging them without any fear, makes me a little scared and happier.

Dearie, thank you for such precious moments and odd days we have together. We have sailed most beautiful times and scary tuff days when you ever you fell sick and rushed to hospital . On both notes, what we did not forget is we are together, your trust on me, my constant love and care for you.

There is a universe of wishes I have for you, and an endless list of DOs I can preach but I only want to  scribble some DON’T’s  for you as you grow up to be a wonderful woman

v Don’t ever stop speaking up for yourself. ‘Voice it out loud’.

v Don’t ever dependent on anyone completely. Being self-reliant is very essential in every sense (Financially, emotionally etc.)

v Don’t push yourself too hard. If something is not working, it’s ok to let it go.

v Don’t ever neglect your health - mental, physical and emotional. Remember, A sound mind in a sound body

v Don’t lose your charm of saying ‘NO’, if something is not convincing you.

v Don’t lose your curiosity and questioning. You may not get answers to all, but questions keep you pondering.

v Don’t lose your love for books and travel.

v Don’t compromise on your self-respect. If you feel the place is not making you feel good. Leave.

v Don’t avoid taking risks. Success will be exciting, and failure will be a learning

v Don’t shy away from breaking rules. Be your own boss but never underestimate others.

v Don’t forget your roots. Soar to the sky but keep your feet on the ground.

v Don’t quit before you try. The experience is worth it.

v Don’t forget to be honest. It will surely pay off, may be late but for sure.

v Don’t shun away for being there for your friends at times of need. Genuine people are rare to find. Don’t lose them

v Don’t be shatter when you fail and be carried away when you succeed

v Don’t push things till the end. Live life today, dance now and sing your song.

v Don’t stop loving you. Self-hatred is the biggest demon to conquer

v Don’t compare. Comparison leads to complications

v Don’t case perfection. It doesn’t exist.

v Don’t you forget that amma and appa are there always to listen to you and you can talk to them about anything.

v Don’t forget to smile . Your smile can heal anything my dimple queen

Oh dear, even the list of Don’t’s are endless. I told you a mother can lecture endlessly :P

Esha, wishing as you going to begin your new journey of school very soon, here is amma wishing you all the prosperity, health, love, fulfillment, joyous years of learning and curiosity in abundance.

God bless you my sweet munchkin.

Love
Amma

  10. This is just too cute. You are right, these tiny human beings teach us a lot. We often say, we have to be their role model, we have to teach them a lot of things. But the truth is they make us a better version of ourselves. Esha, will love what her Amma has jotted down here. Do print it out and later read it to her.
